Alafar President's Letter

The health and safety of the refractory community and our partners is our highest priority.   The effort to slow the spread of COVID-19 has temporarily halted the face-to-face meetings, as countries and companies have banned gatherings of all sizes and organizations have put travel on hold. After careful consideration, and in light of the ongoing pandemic developments, we have taken the difficult decision to postpone the ALAFAR 2020 conference. Considering the fact that the UNITECR 2021 Conference will take place in Chicago-USA in September 2021, we have decided to host the next ALAFAR conference in Iguacu Falls-Brazil on November 7-10, 2022. Having spent a long period of time preparing the conference with the ALAFAR Committee, speakers, and event partners, we are disappointed not to be able to host you this year in Brazil.   We want to thank all partners for their support, especially to those who sent abstracts to the conference organization. We are counting on you to be with us in 2022, when we will open a new Call for Papers. We remain excited to host the ALAFAR Conference in 2022 and will get back to you with more information about the event. Thank you very much for your continued support and we look forward to seeing you in Iguacu Falls in November 2022!

Organized by the Latin American Association of Refractories Manufacturers, the ALAFAR Congress is the most traditional event of the sector in Latin America, gathering some of the most important refractories producers and raw materials suppliers in the world.

Combining a high-level technical agenda to a unique and free-of-charge social program, the 42nd edition of the congress will be held in Foz do Iguaçu, Brazil, home of the impressive and mighty Iguaçu Falls. Located at Brazil, Argentina, and Paraguay’s tri-border area, the place is served by commercial flights with connections to the main international airports of the region. In 2022, the theme of the congress will be “Refractories for a Sustainable Future”. We hope to reunite experts, researchers, and companies so that, together, we may outline the future of the sector.
